Hot-lanta

This past weekend we took a quick trip to Atlanta, or HOT-lanta. It was a jam packed 24 hours but we wouldn’t have it any other way.

We arrived to our hotel, a Microtel, at 1 a.m. to find it surrounded by 3 strip clubs and numerous bars. One in particular, The Pink Pony, was jammin. We might not have picked the best area of ton to stay in, but we got a taste of the culture and culture is never bad. After a quick 7 hour slumber we were up and out the door. The reason for this short trip was to visit a grad school open house. We spent our morning at The Creative Circus, a well known school for the arts.

We then channeled our inner tourist and explored downtown. Centennial Olympic Park sits right in the thick of downtown and is surrounded by skyline. Our afternoon was spent learning about the “secret formula” and sampling Coca Cola products from all over the world at The World of Coca Cola. Some flavors were good, some were gross. Stay away from the Beverly flavor.

Later that evening we met up with an old college friend and indulged in the most delicious hamburgers in the south at The Vortex. The Vortex is in an eclectic area of Atlanta called Little Five Points, much like the Five Points area in Raleigh.

This entire trip costs each of us (there were 3) around $100. Here’s the breakdown.

Hotel: For 2 nights, $195/3 (we split the cost between the 3 of us) = $65

World of Coca Cola: $17

Food: Breakfast at hotel $0, lunch in downtown $8, dinner at The Vortex $15

GRAND TOTAL: $105
